James Copeman studied graphic design at university but he quickly evolved into moving image.

After several years as motion graphics designer and animator for clients such as E4, MTV, 4music and The Box he began directing music videos and his first video was for the critically acclaimed UK band Noah and The Whale.  Soon to follow were videos for Noah, Laura Marling, The Mystery Jets and Biffy Clyro.

In 2007 he got signed by Black Dog/RSA Films, and went on to direct a series of videos earning him the MVA Award for Best New Director in 2008.

James’s style is noticeably distinct; his work consistently delivers charming and warm performances, strong colour palettes and detailed art department.  He often uses his background in graphics to embellish and heighten the visuals, sometimes with a tongue-in-cheek twist.

His ever expanding list of clients now includes a broad range of artists such as Paloma Faith, Razorlight, Example, Diana Vickers, Eliza Doolittle, Youmeatsix, Wolf Gang and many more.

His work has been featured in Dazed and Confused, Arena, Creative Review and Shots magazine.
